Starbucks is a big deal in our family. Not just because we are coffee addicts, but Josh and I actually met at Starbucks back when we were super young. He worked there, and I was always grabbing coffee on my way to work. We struck up a friendship and the rest is history. We even went to Starbucks as part of our wedding photos and got coffee. Haha! How’s that for an odd love story?
When Josh was diagnosed with celiac 10 years ago, knowing which drinks and items were gluten free became very important to us. We wanted to continue to enjoy our favorite spot and also keep Josh healthy. When we think of Starbucks gluten free drinks, we tend to break their menu down into the categories we see when ordering on their app.
Here is a breakdown of the Starbucks Gluten Free Drinks by category:
Hot Drinks
All of the hot coffees listed on the Starbucks Canada and Starbucks US Site are gluten free! Woohoo! This is so exciting and provides many options for us coffee addicts.
Coffee and tea are naturally gluten free, providing a wide variety of gluten free drink options not only at Starbucks but other places as well.
Milk and cream are also gluten free and can be added to your beverage without worry of gluten contamination as are most plant-based milk alternatives. However, oat milk has been found to contain greater than 20ppm gluten which is the threshold to be considered gluten free. To ensure that your drink is gluten free it is recommended to avoid oat milk.
The biggest thing to remember is that the oat milk, java chips, and anything listed as cereal will not be gluten free.
Cold Drinks
Cold Coffees
Cold coffee drinks sold at Starbucks are gluten free. As with the hot beverages oat milk should be avoided to ensure gluten is not inadvertently added to the drink.
Iced Teas
Starbucks iced teas and lemonade are also gluten free.
Frappuccino Blended Beverages
Nothing says summer like a Frappuccino on a hot afternoon. Thankfully for those of us who are on a gluten free diet most flavors are gluten free. Flavors to avoid are those that use Java chips, Malted Milk, or any type of cereal.
