Five Guys Gluten Free Menu
When our family became gluten free, finding quick and easy eating out options was a challenge. We found that there were so many options at Five Guys! Here are the Five Guys Gluten Free Menu tips and tricks that helped us so much!
Five Guys Fries are Gluten Free
This is so wonderful! Five Guys doesn’t cook anything else in their fryers except for fries. You don’t have to worry about the risk of cross contamination. We have found in our family that there are varying degrees of sensitivity to cross contamination, Lydia seems to be able to handle the slightest bit, while Josh can’t handle any. Thankfully the Five Guys fries are hand cut from raw potatoes in house each day and cooked in peanut oil.
NOTE: don’t eat at Five Guys if you have peanut allergies. The fries also don’t have any coatings on them. It can be quite common for fries to have a wheat flour coating on them to make them more crispy. We run into this a lot when buying fries at the grocery store. It is always best to ask at a restaurant if their fries have any coating and if they are fried with other foods like wings and chicken fingers.
Thankfully Five Guys has a dedicated fryer and doesn’t use any coatings so their fries are gluten free.
Five Guys Burgers are Gluten Free
The burger patties are gluten free at Five Guys and so are all the toppings. Woohoo!!! Okay, so how do you get a gluten free bun? Five Guys doesn’t have gluten free buns, but they have a delicious lettuce wrap option to make your burger gluten free. If you are celiac, just make sure you tell them it is celiac, and an “allergy.” When we word it this way, they do a special prep on the burger. We have always been so impressed with the prep when we state that Josh has celiac and luckily, he has never gotten sick.
Five Guys Hotdogs are Gluten Free
I rarely order a hotdog when eating out because so many brands have wheat filler in them. We use the same caution in our family when dining at friends’ houses too (unless they have the package to verify the hotdog is gluten free). Thankfully Five Guys hot dogs are gluten free with no wheat filler. Plus, you can load it up with all of the toppings as they are gluten free. I scrunched up my nose the first time it was suggested that I get my hotdog lettuce wrapped, but it is actually delicious. The hotdog somehow tastes fresher, and the toppings are more vibrant. I also find I don’t get the heavy feeling after.
Milk shakes – Pick Carefully
There are many gluten free options for milk shakes at Five Guys. The ones to avoid are the malt milk (malt has gluten in it), and the cookies in cream. Sticking with Vanilla, Strawberry, or Chocolate usually yields the best results, and those Five Guys shakes are delicious.
Items to Avoid
This list may seem obvious, but make sure you avoid the following items when looking for Gluten Free at Five Guys:
- The buns – Five Guys does not offer a gluten free bun alternative
- Bread – their grilled cheese sandwich is on wheat bread – there is no gluten free option
- Milkshakes that contain bits of cookie or malt
Overall, our experience with Five Guys and their options for gluten free on their menu has been great. The various locations we have visited have taken great care when we mention that the lettuce wrapping is due to celiac and we usually throw in the word allergy. The staff are always conscientious and kind about it and seem well educated in celiac and gluten free needs. I’m sure there are locations out there that don’t take the necessary precautions, but we have been extremely impressed compared to the other fast food chains. Plus, their burgers and fries are delicious!
