When Josh was first diagnosed with Celiac close to 10 years ago, we panicked. It was unclear what he was going to be able to eat and suddenly it seemed like life was no fun. Thankfully we found a number of Gluten Free Chips in Canada so that we could still enjoy camping, beach BBQ’s and good old Friday night movies with some chips.
Gluten Free Chips in Canada
Old Dutch
Old Dutch chips are iconic in Canada. Everyone knows about them and loves their rich and vast flavors. Old Dutch chips are truly Canadian in their flavors such as Ketchup, Salt & Vinegar, Sour Cream & Onion, Barbeque, Dill Pickle, Creamy Dill, Mexican Chili, Cheddar and Sour Cream, and Roastin Chicken.
The best news is that ALL of the Old Dutch chips and flavors are gluten free! Yes, the entire brand lineup. So whether you live in Canada or are making a trip north, make sure you grab some of these delicious chips and explore the many flavor options.
If you want to try Kate’s favorite Old Dutch Ketchup chips, you can get them here on Amazon.
Mrs. Vickie’s
Another iconic chip brand in Canada is Mrs. Vickie’s. These chips are very similar to Kettle Brand that is widely available in the US. The chips are a little bit thinner and as with the best chips in Canada, the brand offers a wide variety of flavors.
Not all of the Mrs. Vickie’s chips are gluten free, the flavors that are safe include:
- Jalapeno
- Lime & Black Pepper
- Original
- Sweet Chili & Sour Cream
- Unsalted
If you like some kick to your chips, the Jalapeno ones are amazing. You can grab some here
Josh loves the Black Pepper and Lime when we are having a Mexican themed food night, you can grab them here.
Lay’s – Frito Lay Company
Lay’s chips are another popular choice for gluten free chips in Canada. A number of their offerings are gluten free, and they have a few other brands under their banner.
The company site indicates that all of their Lay’s chip flavors are gluten free, woohoo! This makes sense as chips are made of potatoes. I make a habit of still reading labels when exploring a new brand just to make sure that specific spices added to the chip are gluten free.
The Frito Lay Company also has these other gluten free snacks:
- Cheetos – cheese puffs that are totally addicting
- Doritos – flavored corn tortilla style chips
- Kate loves Cool Ranch
- Ruffles – such great ripple style chips
- Smartfood – popcorn style snack
- Tostitos – they list these as gluten free, but be aware the multigrain chips have wheat in them and are not gluten free. The corn chips are 100% gluten free
Wrap Up Crunch
It is so great to see that Canada has so many gluten free chip options. Plus, many of the popular brands also have other snack/party treats that are gluten free. There is no shortage of chip snacking options in Canada. If you live in the US, give some of the many flavored chips a try, you will be surprised at how good the flavor combinations are!
